Re: whats the best drifter.....
Thu, March 11, 2004 - 3:20 PMHeh, well since you stole my favorite (Rx7) I'll say the sylvia s15, or a rwd skyline r34..... But mostly the sylvia. Because its light, and nimble, with plenty of power to spare.... -

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Thu, March 11, 2004 - 5:13 PMThe S15 is the baby I don't own....yet

Well I wont allow someone to steal it. Heheheh! My personal opinion would HAVE to ride with the RX-7 after owning two for several years. but I would agree that S`15s, R34s and AE86Truenos/Corollas wouldnt be taking wins if they werent good either..just the RX-7 is so well balanced that it makes an EXCELLENT Drifter...bone stock too, just enough power if you can manage the clutch/throttle combination correctly. My personal fave?? 1st Gen.! Take is back to the Old Skool!!!

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Thu, December 2, 2004 - 10:16 AMThe AE86 is an ideal car to have, because of the ease of tossability, and it's easy learning attitude. With a turbo-240 or something like that, you're going to be limited by the desire to just powerslide through everything, and start saying things like "I could drift that better with fifty more horsepower"... While with a Corolla, you start thinking about when your Diff locks up (because you can feel it), and how the weight shifts.
Overall, I'd think that stock, the best drift car to learn on is an 85 Corolla Twin Cam, with the Stock LSD in back.
that said, I definatly think the best drift car once you're good is an FD. Word. -

Sat, January 8, 2005 - 3:25 PMfrom what I've noticed watching the D1 Nationals, the S15 dominates.

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Sun, May 22, 2005 - 7:41 PMTruenos are good cars to start out with(but everyone here knows that already). The S13 is also a good car to start out with as well. As for the S15 and Skyline, if you're willing to spend money to import, power to you. The R32 and the ER34 are the better choices for drifting, but nothing says you can't drift a 4WD car.(BNR34.) FDs are the cars to drift because of the 50/50 weight distribution. And that's enough for one post... -

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Tue, May 24, 2005 - 8:05 PMwith it's open diff, I argue that the S13 isnt that good of a starter... you're going to have to push yourself much further than a beginner should with that peg-leg diff. -

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Mon, December 11, 2006 - 9:17 AMi'd have to disagree with any one who puts the ae86 on the best drifter list. i own 2, and i can say that by far, it is easyer to drift a civic than an 86. it is my favorite car by far, but the serious lack of power, and old age of these cars makes it difficult to learn. the only reason that i put the age as a factor is because of weakened soggy chassis due to rust, and worn out lsd's from years of abuse and neglected oil services. it is a very unforgiving car for mistakes too. i've learned on my 86 over the last few years, comming from the honda family previous to that, i was used to more power and opposite reactions on lift off and and acceleration. in my opinion, the 2nd and 3rd gen rx7, the 240sx, or the sc400 are the best cannidates for a starter drift car. the sc400 has loads of weight, and eats tires for lunch, but the tourque is pleasing and it handle magnificently at high speeds. and for the price, those three cars are close to compitittion level baring any major issues with relyability. these cars are also easily attainable in good condition. just my 2 cents.

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 9:11 AMim kinda partial to the s-13, light, nimble, and with the sr-20 det motor almost perfect, and the diff is an easy fixto switch to an LSD -

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 1:56 PMdon't be a wuss. KA24 TURBO. Sure, you'll blow engines, but you can get KA's for free. -

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Thu, March 30, 2006 - 5:22 AMso you keep changin those engines -

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Thu, March 30, 2006 - 10:38 AMKA-T is actually pretty insane for drift because it has soo much torque. First time I drove a KA Turbo, I went too full throttle in first gear and the turbo surge broke the rear wheels loose again. Zing! -

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Thu, March 30, 2006 - 3:43 PMtrue, 240's and 180's are kinda hard to come by aaround here, and the ka is a torque monster, did you know that they are spec for delivery trucks in japan??, so right there they are pretty durable, but they tend to puke out and higher rpms( unless tuned right). iunno, i love my car(ask for specs) -

Re: whats the best drifter.....
Thu, March 30, 2006 - 4:10 PMyeah, tell me about your ride?
I used to have a AE86 and hung out with the grunge-drifters (we all had welded differentials, if that tells you something), and all but one or two of the S13 kids (a bunch of 'em) had KA-T's because sure the motors blew, but you could literally pick up a longblock from behind a tune shop for $50. So many people are dropping in RB20's and SR20's that good KA blocks are just sitting in a pile behind the shops.
